Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) Sindh Secretary General Sardar Abdul Rahim has termed the Handwara massacre as “clear evidence of Indian state terrorism” and demanded that those responsible for this historic incident be brought to justice.
In a statement issued today on the occasion of the anniversary, Rahim called January 25, 1990, a tragic and “darkest day” in the history of Kashmir, alleging that the Indian occupying forces committed extreme oppression in Kupwara district.
He stressed that Indian soldiers opened indiscriminate fire on a “completely peaceful and unarmed” gathering. According to Rahim, at least 21 people, whom he described as innocent martyrs, were killed, and more than 75 others were injured as a result of this action.
The PML-F official strongly condemned the tragic incident and expressed deep regret that no independent investigation was ever conducted into this “brutal act.” He said that the impunity of those responsible should be a “moment of reflection for the global conscience.”
Rahim maintained that the “atrocities” of the Indian army have not succeeded in demoralizing the Kashmiri population. He said that their struggle continues and even today their voice is “clear and unwavering: ‘Kashmir will become Pakistan’.”
He urged the United Nations and international human rights organizations to take notice of the “ongoing Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir.” Rahim called on these global bodies to play an effective role in securing the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
