Thrilling competitions are underway at various clubs across the city under the STA Junior Tennis League 2026, where several young players have demonstrated outstanding performance in the initial rounds of the weekly competition.
The Sindh Tennis Association, in collaboration with the Karachi Tennis Association, has organized this long-term tennis initiative starting from Monday to nurture emerging talent.
Nine players under the age of 16 from Karachi and Hyderabad have been selected for the league: Rohab Faisal, Laraib Shamsi, Mir Abbas Bhagat, Syed Sufyan, Rashid Bachani, Majid Bachani, Jibran Shah, Syed Abdullah, and Haziq Areejo.
KTA President and STA Senior Vice President Muhammad Khalid Rehmani stated that this is the fourth such junior league that the associations have successfully organized. He emphasized that the league’s purpose is to “provide high-quality match practice to the talented junior players of Sindh province, as matches are the best coaches.”
Recent results have highlighted several notable performances. Haziq Areejo secured three victories, defeating Syed Abdullah (6-0, 6-1), Rohab Faisal (7-5, 6-3), and Mir Abbas Bhagat (6-3, 6-4).
Jibran Shah also showed strong form, beating Syed Sufyan (6-0, 6-1) and Syed Abdullah (6-2, 6-1). Similarly, Laraib Shamsi defeated Syed Abdullah with a score of (6-0, 6-1) and Syed Sufyan (6-2, 6-2).
In a very tough contest, Laraib Shamsi defeated Jibran Shah in a grueling three-set match 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. In another result, Rohab Faisal beat Syed Sufyan 6-0, 6-1.
The next sessions of the league will be played on January 31.
Trophies and certificates will be distributed among the successful players at the conclusion of the league.
