The Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Sindh has expressed serious concern over the non-payment of salaries to teachers and staff at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal campus of the Federal Urdu University for the past three months and demanded immediate intervention from the Prime Minister.
In a statement on Saturday, the party’s provincial information secretary, Muhammad Sadiq Shaikh, termed the prolonged stoppage of remuneration for the university’s teaching and non-teaching staff “a tragedy and injustice.”
Mr. Shaikh expressed apprehension that the financial difficulties in an institution named after the national language could be part of a “well-organized conspiracy” aimed at forcing the university to close.
He reiterated that the Muslim League (Q) would not tolerate this “unfair treatment” of the university’s employees under any circumstances.
The information secretary strongly urged the Prime Minister of Pakistan to take notice of the matter and issue immediate instructions for the payment of outstanding salaries and the resolution of other issues so that the problem can be resolved without further delay.
