The northern half of Balochistan is set for a spell of intermittent light rain and snowfall over the next 24 hours as a cold wave grips the region, with temperatures having already dropped to sub-zero levels in some areas, the Meteorological Department has announced.

According to a forecast issued on Sunday by the Quetta Regional Center, a partly cloudy to cloudy weather system is expected to bring light precipitation over the hills. The affected districts include Quetta, Ziarat, Mastung, Zhob, Chaman, Loralai, Musakhel, Pishin, Qillah Abdullah, Qillah Saifullah, Barkhan, and Harnai.

The outlook for the subsequent 48 hours indicates that mainly cold and partly cloudy or hazy conditions will persist in the northern and western parts of the province. Traces of light rain and snowfall are anticipated in many of the same districts, particularly during the noon to evening hours.

This forecast follows recent wet weather, with significant rainfall measured across Quetta in the last 24 hours. The Brewery area received the highest amount at 8.6 mm, followed by Sariab (6.8 mm), Samungli (5.0 mm), and the city area (2.8 mm).

Temperature readings from the past day highlighted the intensity of the cold, with Ziarat recording the lowest temperature at a frigid -2.2°C. Kalat registered a low of 0.0°C, while Quetta”s city area saw a minimum of 2.0°C. In contrast, the highest temperature in the province was recorded in Uthal at 27.0°C.
