The head of Pakistan’s Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir met with British community leaders on Friday, stressing the need for sustained international action to address alleged human rights violations in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and to secure the Kashmiri people”s right to self-determination.
Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Chairman of the committee, held the focused discussion in his chamber at Parliament House with a high-profile delegation from the United Kingdom. The dialogue centred on the regional and international dimensions of the long-standing dispute, according to a report by MOIB today .
The visiting representatives included Mr. Liaquat Ali MBE JP, a Past Mayor of the London Borough of Waltham Forest and a representative of the British Muslim Mayors’ Association; Barrister Mr. Umar Ali of the United International Community Forum (UICF); and Mr. Khanzada M.A. Hayat, President of UICF-UK. Also in attendance were the Director of the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) and the Director General of the Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir.
During the gathering, Chairman Noon briefed the delegates on what he described as Pakistan’s principled and consistent stance, emphasising that the Kashmir issue remains an internationally recognised dispute on the United Nations” agenda. He called for the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The committee chairman commended the constructive role played by overseas Pakistanis and British Muslim leadership in advocating for the Kashmir cause through democratic and institutional channels in the UK. He remarked that structured diaspora engagement serves as a strategic enabler for shaping informed global opinion and influencing policymakers.
The UK-based delegation reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening advocacy efforts on the Kashmir matter. They outlined a strategy involving parliamentary outreach, legal discourse, engagement with civil society, and various community-based initiatives across the United Kingdom.
The meeting concluded with a mutual resolve to enhance coordination between Pakistani state institutions and overseas community organisations. The shared objective is to ensure the Kashmir dispute remains a prominent topic at international forums and to work collectively toward achieving a peaceful, just, and durable resolution.
