A traffic assistant has been suspended with immediate effect after scuffling with a citizen during a traffic stop in the city’s Civil Lines area on Wednesday, while the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) has ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident.
According to a spokesperson, the dispute began at Jhanda Chichi point when the traffic warden stopped a motorcyclist for not wearing a helmet.
The situation reportedly escalated when the citizen failed to produce the required documents related to the violation.
During the ensuing legal proceedings, a scuffle broke out between the official and the citizen, prompting immediate disciplinary action.
The CTO Rawalpindi condemned the official’s behavior, stating, “Enforcement of the law is necessary, but such an act is unacceptable.”
The Chief Traffic Officer emphasized that any misconduct by personnel towards the public would not be tolerated.
He assured that “strict departmental action will be taken against the traffic assistant who pushed the citizen.”
