The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) faced renewed pressure on Monday, with the US dollar crossing the significant 280-rupee threshold in the open market, according to figures released by the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan (ECAP).
In the open market, the American currency was quoted for purchase at PKR 279.48 and for sale at PKR 280.30.
This rate reflects a noticeable disparity when compared to the interbank market, where the greenback concluded at a buying rate of 279.00 and a selling rate of 279.20.
Other leading international currencies also demonstrated robust positions against the local unit. The Euro was traded between 326.30 for buying and 329.44 for selling.
Similarly, the Pound Sterling registered a strong presence, with its buying rate at 374.80 and its selling rate reaching 378.33.
The Japanese Yen was valued at 1.74 for buying and 1.80 for selling.
Currencies from the Gulf region also showed firm rates, with the UAE Dirham at 76.19 (buying) and 77.03 (selling), and the Saudi Riyal at 74.49 (buying) and 75.25 (selling), as per the latest data.
