Agriculture University Tando Jam approved 3 Doctor of Philosophy degrees

The Board of Advanced Studies and Research (BASR) of Sindh Agriculture University has approved three Doctor of Philosophy degrees, while in its 180th meeting held today, commitment to elevating academic research and adapting postgraduate programs to international standards was also emphasized.

Ms. Nargis Lohri from the Department of Entomology, Mr. Umair Khatri from the Institute of Food Science and Technology, and Mr. Rashid Ali Korejo from the Department of Animal Products Technology were the successful candidates who were awarded PhD degrees after successfully completing all academic requirements and their viva-voce examinations.

Chaired by Vice Chancellor Engineer Professor Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, the Board commenced its proceedings with the endorsement of the minutes from its 179th meeting, held on March 3, 2026, followed by the approval of the implementation report on its previous decisions. The committee meticulously reviewed various academic and research matters, including comprehensive evaluative reports by foreign experts on PhD theses in fields such as Plant Breeding and Genetics, Agriculture, Animal Nutrition, Entomology, and Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry.

Further academic actions undertaken by the Board included consideration of numerous requests for extension for MPhil and PhD scholars, which were approved in accordance with the rules and regulations formulated by the university. Deliberations also included changes in supervisory panels, endorsement of new supervisors and co-supervisors, and approval of various postgraduate research synopses.

During the meeting, Vice Chancellor Professor Siyal emphasized the importance of further improving the quality of research outcomes and ensuring that the PhD curriculum aligns with global academic standards. He highlighted the critical role of preparing expert graduates to address emerging challenges in the agricultural sector and instructed faculty members and supervisors to more effectively guide and nurture high-quality academic research.

Other esteemed members of the Board also present at the meeting included Dean Faculty of Crop Production Professor Dr. Inayatullah Rajpar, Dean Faculty of Agricultural Social Sciences Dr. Aijaz Ali Khooharo, Dean Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences Professor Dr. Ghiyasuddin Shah Rashdi, and Dean Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology Professor Dr. Munir Ahmed Mangrio.
