According to Dr. Haji Muhammad Hanif Tayyab, Chairman of Nizam-e-Mustafa Party and former federal minister, the increasing addiction to drugs among youth has emerged as a significant national tragedy. In a meeting with various delegations today, Dr. Hanif Tayyab emphasized the urgent need for collective action to tackle this growing crisis.
According to reports from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, approximately 8 million people in the country are addicted to drugs, with 78% of them being young people. Alarmingly, 40,000 new cases are recorded annually among individuals aged 15 to 39, highlighting the importance of immediate intervention.
Dr. Hanif Tayyab expressed concern over the lack of effective government measures and criticized the social factors contributing to the epidemic. He stressed that the deterioration of social ethics facilitates the spread of drug use.
Particularly concerning is that drug dealers exploit women to infiltrate educational institutions. Dr. Hanif Tayyab called for strict enforcement of cybercrime laws to prevent the online sale of drugs through social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp.
He urged parents to closely monitor their children’s activities and relationships. Furthermore, he suggested implementing social and welfare projects to channel the energy of youth in a positive way. Educational institutions should hold seminars to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use.
Dr. Hanif Tayyab’s statements serve as a call to fulfill a moral and national duty for individuals from all sectors to eradicate the scourge of drugs from society.
