Power Tariff Cut Slightly by Rs1.99

The federal government has lowered electricity rates by Rs1.99 per unit under the quarterly tariff adjustment (QTA) system, offering nationwide relief to consumers, the power regulator said on Tuesday.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued a notification confirming that the reduction will remain applicable for three months, from June to August 2026.

According to the regulator, the cut has been approved for the quarterly adjustment period covering January-March 2026, with an estimated financial relief impact of about Rs67.17 billion for electricity users across the country.

The reduction will apply to all consumer categories, including customers of K-Electric, while lifeline users, incremental consumption package subscribers, and prepaid electricity consumers have been excluded from the adjustment.

NEPRA stated that the revision reflects cumulative outcomes of multiple tariff adjustments processed under the quarterly review mechanism, aimed at stabilising pricing signals in the power sector.

In parallel, the government is working on a Solar Wheeling Policy that would allow consumers and businesses to generate solar power at one site and offset consumption at another through the national grid, expanding access to renewable energy solutions.

Following discussions between the business community and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Usman Shaukat said the premier had confirmed that a formal framework for the policy is under development.
