Another mpox case confirmed in Karachi

Karachi has reported another confirmed case of mpox, bringing the total number of infections recorded in the city to 11, health authorities said.

The latest patient, a 35-year-old resident of Mohabbat Nagar in Landhi, was admitted to the isolation ward at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital (SIDH) NIPA after testing positive for the virus, hospital officials said.

According to the hospital administration, the man visited the facility on Saturday after developing symptoms consistent with mpox. Medical examinations were conducted, and the infection was subsequently confirmed through a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.

Officials stated that the patient had no recent history of foreign travel, a factor that could indicate local transmission of the virus.

The newly reported infection follows an earlier case involving a 40-year-old resident of Gulistan-e-Johar. Hospital authorities had said that the patient was also admitted to the isolation ward after a PCR test confirmed the infection and that he likewise had no recent travel history.

With the addition of the latest case, the number of mpox patients treated at SIDH NIPA has increased to eight, according to hospital records.

Health officials said both patients are being closely monitored and urged members of the public to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms associated with mpox.
