At least 10 people were killed and dozens more affected after powerful winds, heavy rainfall, and dust storms battered several parts of Pakistan, causing building collapses, flash flooding, and widespread disruption, officials said on Friday.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported on Friday that nine fatalities occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the past 24 hours as a result of weather-related incidents. The victims included five men, two women, and two children.
According to official reports, fatal accidents and property damage were recorded in Dera Ismail Khan, Upper Dir, Kohat, and Orakzai districts. At least four houses sustained damage amid the severe weather conditions.
In Punjab, strong dust storms followed by moderate to heavy rain affected several cities, disrupting daily life and transportation.
At Kot Qaisrani, a rescue operation was launched after passengers became stranded in a stream swollen by torrential rain. Emergency responders successfully evacuated 10 people who were trapped while travelling on a tractor-trolley.
In Faisalabad, five people sustained injuries when the roof of a house collapsed on Kukianwala Road during the storm.
Meanwhile, in Mian Channu, one person was killed and more than 10 others, including children, were injured in separate incidents linked to strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
Meteorological authorities warned that the current spell of rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds is expected to persist until June 22, raising fears of additional casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions across vulnerable areas of the country.
