Spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Parliamentary Leader in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Karamullah Waqasi, said on Monday that Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab had fulfilled his promise of ensuring a reliable water supply to the Old City Area through the inauguration of the Mir Muhammad Baloch Water Pumping Station, which will provide regular water to thousands of residents.
He made these remarks while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Mir Muhammad Baloch Water Pumping Station in UC-6, Saddar Town. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Lyari Town Chairman Khalil Hot, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) Chief Operating Officer Asadullah Khan, senior officials, party leaders, and elected representatives.
Waqasi said the people of Karachi had elected their genuine representatives with confidence, and that trust was now being translated into tangible development projects across the city. He added that, under the leadership of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, work was progressing rapidly on the provision of essential civic facilities, including water supply, road construction and rehabilitation, sewerage, parks, street lighting, and other public development projects, with their benefits reaching residents across Karachi.
He said that, since assuming office, Mayor Murtaza Wahab had made the resolution of civic issues his top priority. Referring to the city’s long-standing water problems, Waqasi said the issue had often been portrayed solely as a shortage of water, whereas the real challenge lay in better planning, effective management, and sincere implementation. He added that the PPP’s local government leadership had adopted an effective strategy and practical measures to ensure the supply of water to households throughout Karachi.
Describing the Mir Muhammad Baloch Water Pumping Station as a landmark project, Waqasi said it would ensure a regular water supply to residents of Ranchore Line, Kharadar, Mithadar, Jodia Bazaar, Bhimpura, the Old City Area, and adjoining localities. He said thousands of citizens in these neighbourhoods would benefit from the project, significantly reducing the water-related difficulties they had faced for years.
He further said that development projects were being carried out simultaneously across Karachi under the leadership of Mayor Murtaza Wahab. He said the rehabilitation of major roads, construction and repair of streets, improvement of the sewerage system, cleaning of storm-water drains, restoration of parks and playgrounds, installation of modern street lights, repair and construction of bridges and flyovers, conservation of historical sites, and implementation of water supply projects demonstrated the PPP-led local government’s commitment to transforming Karachi into a modern, beautiful, and well-facilitated metropolitan city.
Waqasi added that, on the special directives of Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation was continuously working to make the city’s water distribution system more efficient through the installation of new pipelines, the upgrading of pumping stations, and the equitable distribution of water, ensuring improved delivery of essential services to citizens.
Reaffirming the commitment of the PPP’s local government leadership, Waqasi said the party was working day and night to fulfil the promises made to the people. He added that Karachi’s journey towards development, public welfare, and the provision of basic civic facilities would continue with greater momentum so that the country’s largest city could regain its rightful stature.
