The Awami National Party held a grand jirga today to raise its voice against the imposition of taxes in the Malakand Division.
Various political leaders attended the gathering and addressed the audience. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar Khan expressed concern over the economic impact of new taxes on local residents.
Senator Maulana Ata ur Rehman, Ameer Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, criticized the government’s taxation strategy, highlighting its potential burden on the region’s economy.
Inayatullah Khan, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (North), also took the stage to condemn the financial measures, advocating for a more equitable economic plan considering the unique challenges faced by the Malakand area.
Bushra Gohar, Provincial Chairperson of the National Democratic Movement, supported these views and emphasized the need for a transparent and inclusive dialogue on taxation policies that directly affect the livelihood of the local population.
Furthermore, Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, President of Pakistan Peoples Party Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, demanded an immediate review of the tax implementation, urging the authorities to prioritize the welfare of the people over revenue generation.
The grand jirga continued to serve as a crucial platform for political leaders to unite in opposition to tax policies, highlighting widespread dissatisfaction and emphasizing the urgent need for policy reassessment.
