A new chapter of eco-friendly transport began in Okara today with the official launch of the electric bus service, promising a reduction in pollution and improvement in travel facilities.
This initiative has been taken on the directives of the Punjab government, under which 29 electric buses have been introduced for the district. Initially, these buses will run on five specific routes, selected strategically for convenience and accessibility.
One important route covers 27 kilometers from General Bus Stand (GBS) Okara to Akhtarabad, with the journey expected to be completed in approximately 50 minutes. Other routes include GBS Okara to GBS Depalpur at 25.7 kilometers, GBS Okara to Fatehpur at 26.6 kilometers, GBS Okara to Adda Gamber at 15.4 kilometers, and from Sahiwal Bypass to KFC Bypass at a distance of 16 kilometers.
Key locations on these routes include Okara University, District Headquarters Hospital, Okara Cantt, DC Office, and Cadet College, with several important points in between.
MPA PP 191 Mian Muhammad Munir emphasized that the aim of the new service is to provide citizens with an affordable and quality travel alternative while significantly reducing environmental damage. The Punjab government is committed to improving modern transport solutions for the public.
