Acting Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan has called for a concerted push to promote trade activities and a more constructive media role, identifying both as critical pillars for Pakistan’s national progress, economic stability, and democratic strength. He articulated this vision in separate discussions with business leaders and journalists at the Parliament House on Thursday.
During a meeting with a delegation from the US-Pakistan International Chamber of Commerce, Khan asserted that Pakistan has re-emerged on the global stage, a development poised to energize the local economy by creating jobs and attracting international investment. He commended the efforts of commerce chambers in advancing trade and industry, describing them as vital for the nation’s business growth.
The Acting Chairman highlighted that the government is committed to fostering a conducive environment for investment, improving the ease of doing business, and expanding the country’s exports. “The global economy is evolving rapidly – presenting both opportunities and challenges – but through effective policies, these challenges can be turned into opportunities,” he remarked, praising the contributions of the Pakistani business community in the United States.
M. Siddique Sheikh, who led the business delegation, noted that vast investment opportunities exist in Pakistan and extended an invitation to the Acting Chairman to visit the United States.
In a separate engagement with the newly-elected officials of the Parliamentary Reporters Association (PRA), Khan underscored the essential function of the media in bolstering democracy and enhancing public awareness. He described parliamentary reporting as a significant and responsible field of journalism that helps citizens understand legislative processes.
‘The media serves as a strong bridge between the people and policymakers,’ Khan stated, adding that transparency and constructive reporting are fundamental to building societal trust and stability. He emphasized that collaboration between the government, private sector, and media is crucial for achieving sustainable development.
While congratulating the new PRA leadership, Khan also stressed the need for national unity to overcome current challenges. He pointed to the Upper House of Parliament as a key institution representing all provinces equally and serving as a platform for developing joint national strategies.
PRA President M.B. Soomro and Secretary General Naveed Akbar voiced the challenges faced by media workers and advocated for legislation to safeguard their rights.
