During an open court held today at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, residents leveled serious allegations against the Revenue Department, including the issuance of fake land documents and illegal changes in inheritance records. The public forum, presided over by Advisor to the Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh, Muhammad Nasir Jamali, also received a large number of applications regarding severe water shortages for crop cultivation.
On this occasion, citizens lodged a plethora of complaints against various government departments. The applications included demands for the removal of illegal LPG cylinder shops and buffalo pens from residential areas, citing public safety and sanitation concerns. Further complaints were against the Municipal Corporation, including delays in the construction of water supply lines, poor sanitation in Seed Farm Hameed Pura Colony, and the absence of lighting in the local graveyard.
Employment-related issues were also prominent, with one case highlighting the non-payment of salary to an individual recruited under the disability quota in the Education Department. A comprehensive implementation of the disability quota across all government departments was demanded, along with a plea for the timely payment of salaries to Municipal Corporation employees.
Other matters raised by the public included alleged police excesses, traffic problems, the spread of illegal encroachments, and the need for infrastructure improvement, particularly the construction of Mehmoodabad Road and the renovation of a public park. Small farmers also demanded prompt action on their applications under the Benazir Hari Card scheme.
Speaking to the media, Advisor Muhammad Nasir Jamali stated that this open court initiative was taken on the special instructions of the Ombudsman of Sindh, Sohail Ahmed Rajput, with the aim of identifying and directly addressing public issues. He confirmed that 24 formal complaints were received during the session.
Mr. Jamali reported that officers from the concerned departments were issued on-the-spot directives to resolve the matters. He reiterated the commitment that the Ombudsman’s institution is dedicated to resolving public grievances within the legally stipulated 90-day period.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Subhash Chandar, Additional Deputy Commissioner-II Faisal Ali Soomro, Assistant Commissioner Ghulam Hussain Kanhiyo, and ASP Ms. Mehreen, along with officials from the health, education, and municipal corporations.
