Aga Khan University Secures Key Recognition, Opening New Career Pathways for Pakistani Doctors

Graduates of the Aga Khan University Medical College (AKU-MC) are now eligible to practise medicine in Singapore after the institution was added to the Singapore Medical Council’s (SMC) list of approved overseas schools, a move hailed as a landmark achievement for Pakistan”s medical community.

According to AKU information today, the official recognition, announced by Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH), permits students and alumni from the Pakistani institution to apply online for registration with the SMC. Successful applicants who meet the council”s regulatory and professional requirements will be able to work as doctors within the nation”s advanced healthcare system.

In a social media post, Pakistan”s High Commissioner to Singapore, Rabia Shafiq, welcomed the development, describing it as an “important milestone”. She noted that the inclusion reflects the academic rigour, clinical excellence, and global standing of the university, while creating new professional avenues for Pakistani physicians.

‘The inclusion of Aga Khan University Medical College among SMC-approved institutions places it alongside a select group of globally respected medical schools,’ the High Commissioner said. ‘It is a testament to the quality of medical education in Pakistan and the trust placed in our graduates to meet Singapore’s high healthcare standards.’

High Commissioner Shafiq encouraged aspiring and early-career doctors to consider Singapore as a destination offering world-class medical practice and valuable international exposure.

She added that the decision marks a proud moment for Aga Khan University and represents a significant step forward in strengthening international opportunities for Pakistan’s future medical professionals.
