Angiography machines lying out of order at CHK

KARACHI:The costly angiography machines are lying out of order at Cardiology Department of Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) since several months, while the hospital management was unable to get these costly equipments repaired despite availability of funds, it was learned on Tuesday.

There are two angiography machines in CHK out of which one is very old and outdated while second machine is also not functioning due to the some fault. The cardiac patients are being referred to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (SMBB) Institute of Trauma and other private health facilities for angiographies.

The lack of angiography facility in Sindh’s largest tertiary care hospital has compelled patients to visit other hospitals for angiography procedures. The angiography machine is a medical imaging technique used to visualize the inside, or lumen, of blood vessels and organs of the body, with particular interest in the arteries, veins, and the heart chamber.

The Cardiology Department CHK urgently needs new advance angiography machines and up gradation of Cath Lab to facilitate patients. Medical Superintendent, Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, Dr Noor Muhammad Soomro, said that he was not aware of the present situation of the machines and Additional Medical Superintendent (technical) can update in better way.
