APNEC urges govt to take journalists and medical workers on board

KARACHI: All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (APNEC) appreciated Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari for taking personal interest to ensure that that long-due legislation “Protection of Journalists and Medical Professionals Act, 2021 soon see light of day.

“The most of issues being confronted by the journalists and media workers serving in the field have been addressed in the bill. A majority of media workers, however, serve at establishment and are generally ignored in protecting their rights-particularly appropriate wages and their payment on due dates,” she said in a statement on Friday.

Still, many of journalists and media workers are running from pillar to post to get their outstanding salaries but all in vain.

The APNEC urged the ministry of Information and Broadcast as well as Ministry of Human Rights to protect media workers from financial exploitation by their masters in the media establishments.

The APNEC, being a major stakeholders, also wishes to express its resentment for being omitted from due consultation and being part of the commission for protection of journalists and media professionals.
