ASH puts 400 house officers’ career at stake

KARACHI: Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) has put house officers’ professional career at stake as its administration has not issued offer letters to young doctors despite the passage of four months, PPI learnt Thursday.

Spokesperson, Young Doctors Association while talking to PPI, said the ASH administration had not issued offer letters to house officers working in the hospital since four months. He informed that more than 400 house officers had not been issued offer letters yet.

As per Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), one-year training is mandatory from a teaching hospital for every MBBS/BDS pass doctor. The Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) graduates had usually done their one-year training in ASH.

But unfortunately, the ASH administration is not issuing offer letters to house officers and has compelled them to perform duties without stipend due to its financial crises. The house officers under the banner of YDA KMC are planning to hold pr0test demonstration in favor of their demands. Medical Superintendents, ASH, Dr Nadeem Asif, was not available for comments.
