Leaders of the United Business Group (UBG) on Sunday called on the newly elected officials of the Karachi Press Club to actively highlight the difficulties confronting the business community and convey their concerns to the government.
The appeal was made as the business organisation extended congratulations to the Democratic Panel for its comprehensive victory in the press club”s annual elections, which they termed a “triumph of democracy.”
In a formal statement, UBG Patron-in-Chief S.M. Tanveer, President Zubair Tufail, and other senior members congratulated the incoming office-bearers, including President Fazil Jamili, Vice President Irshad Khokhar, Secretary Muhammad Aslam Khan, Joint Secretary Muhammad Farooq Sami, and Treasurer Imran Ayub.
Felicitations were also extended to the newly elected Governing Body members: Abdul Jabbar Nasir, Akhtar Soomro, Sheema Siddiqui, Faryal Arif, Javed Saba, Fareed Alam, and Javed Mehr.
The UBG leaders described the Karachi Press Club as a “strong fortress of responsible journalism,” acknowledging its historic and exemplary role in the restoration of democracy in Pakistan and in conveying facts to the public.
They expressed their expectation that the new leadership would not only continue to safeguard the rights of the journalistic community but would also play a full and effective role in protecting press freedom and advocating for the nation”s commercial sectors.
