Politics: (ANP will not leave ground open for anyone: Shahi Syed)

ISLAMABAD: Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh President and a candidate for NA-250 Shahi Syed has said that ANP will not leave the ground open for anyone and will contest the general election.

Addressing a condolence reference for Martyrs of Peshawar blast in Karachi, he said ANP will continue its election activities.

Court: (Wapda chairman briefs CJP over proposed dams)

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Implementation Committee of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams (ICDBMD) Lt. Gen (r) Muzammil Hussain called on Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and briefed him about the proceedings of Implementation Committee and its future roadmap for moving ahead to achieve milestone in stipulated time, constituted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in its order dated 04.07.2018 in Constitution Petition No. 57/2016.

Chairman WAPDA / ICDBMD informed that Secretariat of Implementation Committee of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dams (ICDBMD) has already been established at Islamabad and its first meeting was held on 12.07.2018 at ICDBMD Secretariat.

The meeting decided to constitute five Sub-Committees namely Land Acquisition and Resettlement Committee, Finance Committee, Procurement Committee, Security Committee and Coordination Committee; one each for Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dams.

The progress report will be submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan in line with directions of the court.

The CJP appreciated the prompt response of the Implementation Committee, headed by WAPDA Chairman. He directed the Chairman to keep the impetus for ensuring early commencement of Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dams.

Metropolitan Commissioner inspects drain cleaning

KARACHI: Metropolitan Commissioner of KMC visited different city drains to inspect their cleaning.

He was accompanied by the senior director coordination Masood Alam, director municipal services Musheer Ahmed, and other officers.

Metropolitan Commissioner said that drain cleaning was a basic issue of the city which needs to be completed before monsoon rains. He said cleaning of drains should continue throughout the year. He said machinery and manpower are increased at Orangi Nullah, Gujjar Nullah, PECHS Nullah, Hijrat Colony Nullah, Songal Nullah and Manzoor Colony Nullah to complete the job soon as possible.

Court: Rs10 can be donated to SC fund for dams)

ISLAMABAD: People can donate Rs10 to Supreme Court of Pakistan Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dam Fund by sending SMS from mobile phones to 8000.

User shall type “dam” and send SMS to 8000 and an amount of Rs.10/- will be deducted for Supreme Court of Pakistan Diamer Basha and Mohmand Dam Fund and user will receive a message “App Ka Dus Rupey Supreme Court of Pakistan Dam Fund main denay ka Shukria”.

Murree: (5 killed in hill torrent flood)

ISLAMABAD: Five persons lost their lives when trapped in flash flood in a nullah in Murree early Friday morning.

According to Rescue 1122, some motor-cyclists from Rawalpindi drowned at Malach area of Murree Expressway.

Five dead bodies have been recovered and five others were rescued while search is on for others.

Meanwhile, Caretaker Chief Minister, Dr. Hassan Askari Rizvi has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of three persons by drowning into a nullah near Murree on Friday.

He condoled with the bereaved families and expressed sympathies with them. The chief minister directed the concerned officials to take all possible measures for safely rescuing the remaining drowned persons.

Seeking report of the incident, he advised to speed up the rescue operation.

Caretaker minister Hussain Haroon visits KPT

KARACHI: Caretaker Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs and Foreign Affairs Abdullah Hussain Haroon visited the Karachi Port Trust Head Office Friday to review the progress of port projects.

Chairman Karachi Port Trust Rear Admiral Jamil Akhter HI (M) T. Bt and Trustees of Karachi Port Trust attended the session.

The Minister was briefed by Rear Admiral Jamil Akhter about the infrastructure/ ongoing setup of Karachi Port Trust along with the projects of the port like the Shuttle Freight Train from KPT to Dhabeji, Chemical and Edible Oil Terminal, Cargo Village and Industrial Park, etc. The Minister took keen interest in the Shuttle Freight Train from KPT to Dhabeji project. It is in this regard, the Chairman also informed further that for enhancement of cargo transportation, the KPT is taking Pakistan Railways onboard.

Chairman Rear Admiral Jamil Akhter while highlighting the performance of KPT, informed the Minister that KPT has crossed 54-million tons cargo handling and that in few years KPT will break the 75 million tons cargo handling barrier as South Asia Pakistan Terminals has also shortly become operational which has the Capacity to handle 3.1 TEUs Containers annually.

Later, the Minister was accompanied by the Chairman and Trustees of KPT visited the port area to witness ongoing cargo handling, dredging activities of KPT and progress of the Projects underway.

Abdullah Hussain Haroon appreciated the efficiency and speedy work progress on the occasion and issued necessary directives. He was then taken to South Asia Pakistan Terminal Limited for reviewing its progress which concluded the visit.

Senate takes up most of agenda; discusses political issues

ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Thursday evening took up most of its agenda appearing on `Orders of the Day” and debated recent political developments in the country, observes Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) in its Daily Factsheet.

The Senate met for three hours and 23 minutes. The sitting started at the scheduled time of 1100 hours. The Chairman Senate presided over the entire sitting. The Deputy Chairman did not attend the sitting. The Leader of the House attended the sitting for two hours and ten minutes. The Opposition Leader was present for an hour 43 minutes.

As many as 14 (13%) lawmakers were present at the outset and 11 (10%) at the adjournment of the sitting. The parliamentary leaders of PPPP, ANP, PkMAP and MQM attended the sitting. One minority lawmaker was present

The House witnessed presentation of reports by Standing Committees of National Health Services and Petroleum on the West Pakistan Juvenile Smoking (Repeal) Bill, 2018 and non-installation of RO Plants by the EandP Companies operating in District Sanghar, respectively.

Minister for Information presented the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Amendment) Ordinance, 2018 before the House.

Minister for Finance presented the Annual Report along-with a copy of the auditors’ report and certified statement of accounts of the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) for the Financial Year 2013-2014.

The Chair admitted an adjournment motion for debate which was regarding the continuous display of abusive and blasphemous material against the Holy Prophet (PBUH) on the Internet.

An adjournment motion regarding the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products by the Caretaker Government was deferred.

The House passed 14 motions under Rule 194 (1) granting extension to five Standing Committees for presentation of their reports on various parliamentary interventions.

A Calling Attention Notice about generation of electricity through costly sources was deferred.

The House witnessed ministerial response on five mattes of public importance.

Seventeen lawmakers spoke on as many matters of public importance for an hour and 50 minutes. Most of these matters were regarding political issues in the country.

The House was adjourned to meet again on July 13, 2018 (Friday) at 1030 hours.
