Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the School Education Department’s SELECT System Project -The inaugural ceremony was held today at a local hotel
The project, a collaboration between the Sindh government and the World Bank, introduces the first digital system to monitor student attendance in Sindh. Chief Minister Shah stated the project’s aim is to improve the reading skills of primary students, a significant step towards raising the educational standards in the region.
Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah highlighted the pilot implementation of the project in 600 schools across 12 districts, aimed at improving teaching standards and providing comprehensive teacher training. The initiative’s special emphasis is on upgrading the educational environment from primary to middle levels, with special attention given to school administration and leadership through the digital system.
Under the Student Attendance Management and Reporting System (SAMRS), student and teacher attendance, registration, and grade promotion have been digitized. This modern method allows for real-time online monitoring of educational activities, including geo-fence and offline capabilities. This system aims to identify the root causes of absenteeism such as illness, domestic responsibilities, and family emergencies.
Implementation has already reached 600 schools, where 137,000 students are enrolled, a large number of whom are girls. The project reports a 16% significant improvement in attendance from April to May 2025, while the rate of high-risk students has significantly decreased. This digital transformation provides a complete and transparent monitoring system under the supervision of the Reform Support Unit, aiming to reduce the dropout rate and ensure that no student is left behind.
With the support of NADRA, student identification numbers are being verified, ensuring full coverage and accountability. The SELECT project is a testament to the Sindh government’s commitment to educational reforms, promising a brighter future for the youth of the province.
