Corporate Events – National Grid Company Dominates WAPDA Badminton Tournament

The National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) has overwhelmingly clinched the championship title at the 50th WAPDA Annual Inter-Unit Badminton Competition, finishing with a staggering 170 points in a dominant performance that left competitors far behind.

The six-day tournament, held at the WAPDA Sports Complex from September 30 to October 5, concluded with NGC firmly in the top spot. The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) secured the second position with 104 points, while the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) came in third with 58 points.

A total of seven teams vied for the title, including squads from LESCO, MEPCO, IESCO, and QESCO, alongside the top three finishers.

NGC”s players delivered exceptional individual performances throughout the competition. Muhammad Ali Larosh triumphed in the men’s singles final, while Mahoor Shehzad captured the women’s singles title. Larosh also teamed up with Awais Zahid to secure victory in the men”s doubles category.

In the officers” events, Usman Talib achieved the second position in singles before pairing with Muneeb ud Din to win the officers’ doubles final. Other notable results for the champion team included Muhammad Adnan taking second place in the men”s singles, and the duo of Mahoor Shehzad and Farzana Ali securing the runner-up spot in the women”s doubles.

The final day featured a prize distribution ceremony where Engr. Muhammad Shahid Nazir, Managing Director of NGC, attended as the chief guest. He extended his congratulations to all the athletes and presented trophies to the winners and team managers. Engr. Nazir praised the NGC team for their outstanding achievement and for bringing laurels to the organization.

Several high-ranking officials were also present at the closing ceremony, including Deputy Managing Director (P and E) and President of NGC Sports Association, Engr. Dr. Khawaja Riffat Hassan; General Manager (Media and PR), Muhammad Ibrahim; and Director General of WAPDA Sports Board, Farooq Ahmed, among other senior officers.
