Dar Decries Unilateral Block Politics, Urges Confronting Global Economic Imbalances

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday voiced concern over the erosion of multilateral values and the increase in unilateral block politics, calling for a direct confrontation with the imbalances in international economic relations to break the “vicious cycle of poverty and rising global inequality.”

Addressing the inaugural session of the “Margalla Dialogue,” Dar affirmed that Pakistan remains a firm believer in the enduring relevance and importance of multilateralism.

He added that to strengthen this system, all nations, small or large, must accept and respect the principles of the UN Charter and international law.

The deputy prime minister stated that Pakistan is determined to capitalize on its inherited advantages for regional prosperity by prioritizing geo-economics, which he identified as one of the cardinal pillars of the nation”s engagement with international partners.

He emphasized that the country is resolved to enhance regional connectivity and increase bilateral and multilateral development partnerships for socio-economic uplift.

Dar noted the theme of the dialogue was extremely relevant in the current global backdrop and expressed hope that the 6th “Margalla Dialogue” would focus on many pressing issues, including multilateralism, climate change, and the necessity for greater regional connectivity.

The foreign minister also conveyed his optimism that the discussions at the forum would assist Pakistan in exploring new pathways for cooperation towards a more peaceful, stable, and prosperous future.

He concluded by commending the Islamabad Policy Research Institute for organizing the timely event.
