The European Union today reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Pakistan’s advancements in human rights, following a meeting between EU Ambassador H.E. Raimundas Karoblis and Federal Minister for Law and Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar.
The minister expressed gratitude for the EU”s ongoing assistance, particularly under the “Promotion of Human Rights in Pakistan Phase II (EU Huqooq-e-Pakistan II)” initiative, launched in 2024.
The program aims to bolster governmental human rights structures, empower National Human Rights Institutions, promote human rights education and awareness, and foster responsible business conduct. Tarar updated the ambassador on the nation”s comprehensive National Action Plan on Human Rights, which emphasizes legislative and policy adjustments, improved access to justice, and implementation of crucial human rights objectives.
Ambassador Karoblis welcomed these endeavors and reiterated the EU”s commitment to its collaboration with Pakistan. He conveyed satisfaction with the achievements made under the ongoing program and highlighted the EU”s resolve to support Pakistan in furthering its human rights goals.
Discussions also touched on arrangements for the upcoming GSP+ Monitoring Mission scheduled for November 2025. Both parties concurred on maintaining close collaboration for productive interaction and favorable results. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to reinforce cooperation and enhance Pakistan-EU ties in the realm of human rights.
