Efforts afoot to douse forest fire; three killed so far

SHERANI: Fire, which has engulfed olive and pine forests in district Sherani of Balochistan province, could not yet be doused despite lapse of 14 days.

According to details, the fire, which erupted in the forests of olive and pine forests fourteen days ago in district Sherani, has not yet been extinguished despite efforts by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and district administration. It is pertinent to mention that so far, three persons have been killed and three injured in the fire that has engulfed 15 kilometres area of the forests in district Sherani.

Talking to PPI, noted political and tribal leader of district Sherani, Shuhabuddin Khan Sherani said that the fire spread to about 15 kilometres due to the sheer negligence of authorities, adding, “Prompt action to extinguish the fire was required to be taken at that time when it erupted.” He said local people were busy extinguishing the fire.
