Eleven coal mine workers lost their lives, and six others sustained injuries when their vehicle struck a roadside improvised explosive device in the Takari coal mine area of Tehsil Shahrug, district Harnai, on Friday. The victims were traveling in a pickup vehicle when the explosion occurred.
Deputy Commissioner Harnai Hazrat Wali Kakar said the bodies and injured were shifted to the Basic Health Unit in Shahrug. After receiving initial medical attention, the injured were referred to Quetta for further treatment.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He directed authorities to provide the best possible medical care to the injured. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, he stated that those responsible for the attack would be held accountable.
Spokesman for Balochistan government Shahid Rind condemned the attack and confirmed that an inquiry had been initiated. He stated that law enforcement agencies had reached the site to collect evidence, and initial investigations indicated that an improvised explosive device had been planted near the road. He stated that injured mine workers were receiving treatment at Shahrug hospital.
