Arts Council Pakistan Karachi organised a photographic exhibition on Kashmir Solidarity Day today, showcasing images that reportedly depict human rights violations and atrocities committed by Indian forces in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.
The event, held at Haseena Moin Hall, was inaugurated by Karachi”s Mayor, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, and the Arts Council”s President, Muhammad Ahmed Shah. In his address, Mayor Wahab conveyed Pakistan”s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people, asserting their right to self-determination as guaranteed by United Nations resolutions.
“Today we express our complete solidarity with our Kashmiri brothers and sisters. We want to assure them that Pakistan stands with them and always will,” the Mayor stated, adding that the entire nation conveys this clear stance to the world.
He strongly condemned what he termed the “aggressive policies and ignorance of the Modi administration,” framing the Kashmir issue as both a humanitarian and international concern that demands a just resolution. He stressed the importance of organising similar seminars and events to counter the “negative propaganda of the Modi government,” recalling that the late Benazir Bhutto had also consistently championed the cause.
Muhammad Ahmed Shah described Kashmir as the “lifeline of Pakistan” and accused the “Modi-led terror regime” of persistent oppression and violations of UN resolutions. He noted that the Kashmir issue, alongside the Palestinian conflict, is receiving increasing global attention.
Attendees were briefed on the context of the displayed photographs by Bashir Sadozai. He explained that Pakistan observes Kashmir Solidarity Day on 5 February each year in response to severe rights violations, recounting that the day was officially recognised in 1990 by the late Benazir Bhutto.
Sadozai further commented that the programmes organised by the Arts Council on this issue are “unprecedented” and that the current exhibition serves as a practical demonstration of solidarity. The event drew several prominent political and social figures, including Sardar Zulfiqar Khan, Sardar Liaqat, Sardar Sagheer Advocate, Nazir Anjum, and Mohammad Asif Abbasi Advocate.
