Explosion in residential building in Karachi’s Soldier Bazar due to gas leakage, 14 killed

A residential building partially collapsed due to an explosion caused by a gas leak in the Soldier Bazar area, after which a search and rescue operation was immediately launched.

The death toll has risen to 14 after a section of a residential building in Soldier Bazar number three, Karachi, collapsed due to an explosion from a gas leak on Thursday morning at pre-dawn.

According to rescue sources, the explosion occurred at pre-dawn; among the 13 people killed are 4 children and 3 women.

14 injured have been pulled from the building’s debris and transferred to the hospital.

The rescue operation is ongoing due to fears of more people being present in the rubble.

Upon receiving information of the explosion, rescue teams, including a heavy contingent of Soldier Bazar police and rescue personnel, reached the scene.

Authorities have cordoned off the affected area, located near a private school, and increased security.

Meanwhile, relief agencies have launched an operation to search for people possibly trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building.

A spokesperson for the East Police, confirming the initial details, has said that updates will be provided as more information is received from the scene.
