Glowing Tribute Paid to Burhan Wani

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday reiterated Pakistan’s support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), saying the country would continue to raise the Kashmir issue at international forums.

In a message issued on the death anniversary of Burhan Wani, the chief minister described him as a hero of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and paid tribute to his family.

She said Wani’s death had demonstrated that the spirit of freedom remained deeply rooted among the people of Kashmir, adding that every generation in the disputed region continued to aspire for self-determination.

Maryam Nawaz said the United Nations and the international community had both a legal and moral responsibility to honour the commitments made to the Kashmiri people regarding their right to self-determination.

She also expressed hope that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir would soon witness what she described as the dawn of freedom, and prayed for an early resolution of the longstanding dispute.
