Govt has allocated Rs78bn for next installment of Benazir Kafalat program: Shazia

ISLAMABAD:Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Marri on Saturday said the government has allocated an amount of more than Rs78-billion for the next installment of the Benazir Kafalat program while the annual budget for the program is Rs252-billion.

 

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Benazir Dynamic Registry Center under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) in Khangarh, she informed that so far 08 lakh 72 thousand surveys have been completed in Benazir Dynamic Registry Centers.

 

“Six Dynamic Registry Centers have been set up in Muzaffargarh district while currently, more than 3 lakh 21 thousand families in Muzaffargarh district are being given scholarships under the Benazir Income Support Program,” she stated.

 

The political opponents criticized BISP program; however, United Nations and other reputed international organizations have appreciated it, she added. The Minister also talked to the beneficiaries who urged the minister to increase the number of counters.

 

Upon receiving the request, she immediately directed the Director General Punjab and Zonal Director BISP to increase the number of centers for beneficiaries’ relief. Shazia Marri, later on, also attended the Workers Convention in Khangarh. While talking to media she lamented the previous government for the current economical fiasco.

 

She said the previous government had inked the deal with IMF therefore, the incumbent government had no other choice but to take drastic measure in order to save the country from default. Later on, she also chaired the workers convention of Pakistan People’s Party at Khangarh. She reminisced that PPP last government had provided economic assistance to thousands of families by providing income support.
