The federal government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the provision of highquality certified seed to farmers across Pakistan, declaring it a top national priority.
Chairing the third meeting of the Board of Governors of the National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority (NSDRA) here on Wednesday, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, underscored the need for transparency, quality assurance, and institutional reforms in the seed sector.
Rejecting any proposal to reinstate fake seed companies, the Minister took a firm stance, stating that exploitation of farmers will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
‘Our goal is to establish a transparent and farmerfriendly seed system. There will be zero tolerance for any compromise in this regard,’ he stressed.
During the highlevel meeting held at the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, four new members were inducted into the NSDRA Board to enhance its governance.
Additionally, a structured and transparent service framework for new employees was approved, aimed at boosting the authority’s institutional efficiency and professional capacity.
Rana Tanveer also emphasized the critical importance of developing and supplying highquality cotton and oilseed varieties, noting that the overall agricultural productivity of the country largely depends on seed quality. He called for increased investment in research, development, and publicprivate collaboration to elevate seed standards.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the Chairman of NSDRA, Director General Strategic Projects, and representatives of major seed companies. Participants shared a range of proposals for improving the seed sector, which were welcomed by the Minister.
The Minister directed all concerned institutions to work in close coordination and implement effective policies tailored to the needs of Pakistani farmers.
He also reaffirmed the government’s vision to transform NSDRA into a modern, efficient, and transparent regulatory body that can lead the nation toward agricultural selfsufficiency.
‘The welfare of our farmers and provision of quality seed is not just a policy goal-it is a vital pillar of our national development,’ the Minister concluded.
