In a major relief to the trading community, shipping agents have assured that no additional war-related charges will be levied on these transit cargoes or shipments on other routes, according to Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry.
Addressing a high-level meeting held today to address challenges faced by importers and exporters, Mr. Chaudhry detailed the government’s measures. He said that customs authorities have issued notices to traders informing them of unnecessary surcharges, and so far about 10 complaints have been processed.
In a further move to ease financial pressures, key industry organisations, including the Pakistan Ship’s Agents Association and the All Pakistan Shipping Association, are set to release advisories directing members to cease charging retention fees on export containers stranded at ports.
These initiatives are part of a wider government strategy aimed at alleviating pressure on the country”s ports amidst persistent logistical hurdles. “We”re coordinating closely with port authorities, customs officials, and shipping stakeholders to streamline cargo movement and cut financial burdens on exporters,” Mr Chaudhry explained. The measures seek to enhance efficiency in the blue economy and support exporters navigating global disruptions.
The minister’s declarations are seen as a pivotal development for the maritime sector, highlighting the government’s resolve to build a resilient and efficient trade environment. Traders have been urged to remain vigilant and to report any irregularities promptly through official channels.
