For the historic “Lok Sahita Marathon 2025”, more than 28 international athletes from 15 countries participated alongside over 3,000 local runners. The event, themed “The Hope Run”, saw world-class athletes from countries including Kenya, Italy, Ethiopia, Morocco, Japan, Uganda, and the United Kingdom gather in the city.
The race began early Sunday morning from IBA Public School under strict security measures and coordinated communication. The full marathon covered the standard distance of 42.195 kilometers, while a special 10-kilometer race was organized for women.
Several key officials were present at the start of the race, including Chairman Lok Sahita Marathon DIG Pir Muhammad Shah, Commissioner Sukkur Division Abid Saleem Qureshi, and Mayor Sukkur Arsalan Islam Shaikh. Other dignitaries included Secretary Universities and Boards Muhammad Abbas Baloch, Shah Abdul Latif University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk, and Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shahzad Khan.
Excellent security and logistical arrangements helped secure the event, generating great enthusiasm among local citizens and sports fans. The competitors demonstrated a high level of performance on various routes throughout the city.
The women’s 10-kilometer race also received considerable interest and encouragement from spectators. The organizers stated that this marathon is expected to be a milestone for the promotion of sports in the region, while it also aims to foster better international relations and national unity.
