ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday dismissed on merit four appeals of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against the acquittal of former President Asif Ali Zardari.
The IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah noted that NAB’s case was not based on merit. “We are accepting NAB’s request to withdraw the appeals and also rejecting them on the basis of merit,” the Chief Justice ruled.
Additional Prosecutor General NAB Jahanzeb Khan Bharwana conceded that the appeals were not on merit, thus the concerned authority had approved their withdrawal and NAB submitted a request to withdraw these appeals. NAB had filed these references against Asif Ali Zardari some 25 years ago. Zardari was later acquitted in 2014 and 2015 in all these references by the accountability court.
