Islamabad, January 04, 2018 (PPI-OT):The Inter-Ministerial meeting of steering committee was held to discuss the development projects for Science Talent farming Scheme (STFS) for Young Pakistani Students. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Science and Technology. Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms. Engr. Muhammad Baligh-ur- Rehman, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Ms. Yasmeen Masood, Federal Secretary for Science and Technology, Mr. Shoaib Ahmad Siddique, Federal Secretary for Planning, Development and Reforms, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) and other senior officers of attached departments attended the meeting.
The steering committee discussed the implementation status of the project “Science Talent Farming Scheme” .During the course of meeting, the chairman accentuate the special milieu embracing Pakistan and suggested all participants to show greater latitude in terms of infrastructure development for incorporating science education among the youth of Pakistan.
The steering committee agreed to intensify its efforts for creating a nationwide pool of science popularisers. The committee deliberate upon the acquisition of land for the establishment of National Science School (NSS). The Committee reaffirmed that the creation of National Science School (NSS) is need of the hour and in addition to being futuristic, it will uplift and provide a platform for the best science and technology education to the talented students of our country. The chair opined to follow bench mark practices being observed around the globe in imparting high tech Science education among the youth.
The committee unanimously agreed upon to follow the merit based, transparent procedure for selection of students for numerous science scholarships for inspiring youth. Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms lamented that upturn in the use of science and technology has set the stage right for development and the laid out procedures should be geared more towards under privileged and poor classes of society so that no aspiring student should lag behind in participating the scholarship’ schemes on socio-economic ordeal.
Engr. Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training instructed for a merit based assessment procedure with the aim to achieve a knowledge based economy to inculcate a culture of science Education in Pakistan. The steering committee concluded to resolute the use of public service media in order to enhance its reach to masses and to spur up awareness for emerging crop of young students. Towards the end, the committee further reckon to flag public media the success and motivational stories to sparkle up the talented lot.
