Abdul Waheed Qureshi, a former MPA and Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Hyderabad, passed away due to a heart attack here on Monday. He was 82.
He left behind a widow, four sons, and three daughters. His funeral prayer was held at Heerabad area of the city, which was led by former Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Amir Siraj-ul-Haq, with thousands of people, including assembly members and Jamaat-e-Islami leadership, in attendance. Qureshi was laid to rest at Lalu Lashari Graveyard.
He was also a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan’s Central Shura, and devoted his life to social work and the service of religion.
Speaking on the occasion, Siraj-ul-Haq described Qureshi as a man of great character and compassion, who served humanity beyond political affiliations. He added that Qureshi’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Hyderabad’s political and social history, highlighting his contributions to orphan care, widow support, and religious institutions.
Notable attendees were Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Dr Meraj-ul-Huda Siddiqui, Asadullah Bhutto, and Kashif Saeed Sheikh. The gathering prayed for the departed soul, seeking forgiveness and a place in Jannat-ul-Firdous for Abdul Waheed Qureshi.
