Karachi is paying a heavy price for the delay in the Safe City Project: Pasban Democratic Party

Pasban Democratic Party Chairman Altaf Shakoor pointed out in a statement today that due to the prolonged delay in the implementation of the Karachi Safe City Project, increasing security concerns are being faced. The recent terrorist attack on the Rangers headquarters in Gulistan-e-Jauhar highlights the need for a modern public safety system that can assist law enforcement agencies in combating terrorism and street crimes.

Altaf Shakoor urged the federal and provincial governments to allocate funds for the Safe City Project, aimed at transforming Karachi into a safe and modern city. He praised the sacrifices of the Sindh Rangers who thwarted the attack at a personal cost and emphasized solidarity with the security forces.

According to Shakoor, the Safe City Project is not just about the deployment of CCTV cameras but involves a comprehensive security network. It includes high-definition surveillance, intelligent traffic systems, automated number plate recognition, and integrated communication networks. These tools are essential for crime assessment, suspect identification, and rapid emergency response, ultimately protecting the lives and property of citizens.

The delay in the project leaves Karachi vulnerable to various crimes such as terrorism, theft, and street crimes. Shakoor urged the government to prioritize the Safe City Project and complete it as soon as possible, which is crucial for the city’s safety and economic stability.

A modern Safe City system will also address Karachi’s chronic traffic issues, improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and ensure timely movement of emergency vehicles. This will save time, reduce fuel consumption, and decrease air pollution, benefiting both residents and the environment.

The successful implementation of the project will particularly protect vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly by improving the monitoring of public places like schools, hospitals, and parks. With better security, citizens will have the opportunity to feel safer throughout the city.
