Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has announced plans to digitize all land records in Orangi Town as part of a pilot project.

The initiative aims to address issues of encroachment and fake leases, with a focus on restoring the original purpose of ST plots for public facilities. Legal compliance will be strictly enforced in all related matters.

According to a statement by the Mayor’s office today, Wahab made these remarks during a meeting with officials from the Orangi Town Pilot Project. Key officials, including Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi and Project Director Faisal Rizvi, attended the meeting. The Mayor stressed the importance of digitizing KMC land records to prevent forgery and unauthorized alterations.

Wahab highlighted the need for immediate action on 40% of the 193 ST plots currently under illegal occupation. These plots, originally designated for welfare purposes, are intended to host public amenities such as parks, schools, and community centers.

The Mayor has directed that cleared plots should be auctioned publicly, ensuring all land-related transactions comply with established rules. Officials have been advised to resist external pressures when implementing these reforms.

In an effort to promote efficiency and transparency, Wahab assured that well-performing staff would be rewarded. He warned of strict consequences, including legal action, for any officers found involved in fraudulent activities, underscoring the need to address complaints about land allotment issues in Orangi Town.
