Authorities have rolled out a comprehensive traffic and security strategy for the central processions of 8th, 9th and 10th Muharram (1448 AH), with more than 5,000 police personnel to be deployed across the city to maintain order and ensure public safety.
According to police report today, additional security contingents and reserve forces will be stationed along procession routes and at majalis venues. Snipers have also been positioned at sensitive locations, while search-and-sweep operations are being conducted continuously to prevent any security breach.
A police spokesperson said security arrangements had been further strengthened on the directives of the Additional Inspector General of Karachi, adding that all necessary measures had been finalised to safeguard mourners and religious gatherings.
Authorities urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity through the police helpline 15.
Meanwhile, the central 8th Muharram procession is scheduled to be taken out from Nishtar Park on Wednesday under stringent security measures.
Karachi Traffic Police said the main processions on the 8th, 9th and 10th of Muharram would commence from Nishtar Park and proceed along designated routes before concluding at their respective destinations.
As part of the traffic management plan, M.A. Jinnah Road will remain closed to vehicular movement during the processions. Commuters have been advised to use alternate routes to avoid inconvenience.
Traffic arriving from Nazimabad will be diverted through Lasbela Chowk, while vehicles coming from Shahrah-e-Faisal will be redirected via Society Signal and other designated alternative routes.
Authorities further stated that only authorised vehicles carrying official stickers would be permitted access to the procession routes as part of enhanced security and traffic control measures.
