Karachi’s central cattle market prepares for sacrificial animals demand

Karachi’s central cattle market is abuzz with activity as preparations for Eid al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice, are underway. Trucks laden with sacrificial animals have begun arriving at the designated site located on a 1000-acre land at Karachi’s Northern Bypass in Taisar Town.

Contracts for the Temporary Cattle Market 2024 have been formally issued, encompassing administrative duties and service provisions. The market, boasting a capacity of 400,000 to 500,000 sacrificial animals, has been organized into four blocks catering to VVIPs, VIPs, and the general public.

Administrators have initiated the process of paving blocks to accommodate the arriving animals, prioritizing improved drainage systems to mitigate potential disruptions caused by inclement weather, as witnessed in previous years.

Security measures have been ramped up, with the deployment of police and Rangers personnel, establishment of security checkpoints, and plans for CCTV installation to monitor the market premises.

In a bid to ensure animal welfare, each cattle will receive 30 liters of complimentary water, while free land is allocated for the construction of cattle sheds.

The contracts has been awarded to various parties for essential services such as branding, electricity supply, parking, water supply, and provision of soft drinks, mineral water, fodder, and ice distribution.

The comprehensive arrangements underscore a concerted effort to facilitate traders and visitors alike, while upholding standards of security and welfare in Karachi’s bustling cattle market.
