Karachi: A tree plantation drive was held at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Community Park in celebration of Earth Day. Officials and industry representatives emphasized the urgent need for collective action to address environmental challenges.
According to Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, the event was attended by key figures including Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development, Dost Muhammad Rahimoon, and KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput. Rahimoon noted that Earth Day, observed globally on April 22, serves as a reminder of the growing threats posed by environmental pollution and climate change. He underscored the necessity of joint action by the government, industry, and the public to achieve meaningful environmental protection.
Rahimoon highlighted various awareness activities organized by the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) to mark Earth Day, including tree plantation campaigns. He emphasized that planting trees is crucial for improving environmental conditions and ensuring a safer future for coming generations.
Muhammad Ikram Rajput, President of KATI, stressed that environmental protection is a shared responsibility, particularly in a densely populated city like Karachi. He highlighted progress made under the provincial government's leadership in promoting environmental protection, green energy initiatives, and tree plantation campaigns. Rajput reaffirmed the industrial community's full support for government efforts aimed at environmental sustainability and called for a greater focus on infrastructure development, waste management systems, and wastewater treatment projects.
Junaid Naqi, Chairman of KATI's Standing Committee on Tree Plantation, stated that balancing industrial growth with environmental protection is essential. He emphasized the need for industries to adopt environmentally friendly technologies, promote green energy projects, and introduce an effective policy framework.
The event saw participation from KATI office-bearers, SEPA officials, industrialists, and members of the public. Participants planted saplings to reaffirm their commitment to a greener Pakistan.
