Police on Friday conducted a major operation on the National Highway, arresting two narcotics peddlers allegedly involved in the trade of substandard and unregistered cigarettes.
Acting on the directives of SSP Khairpur, a team led by CIA In-charge Allah Wadhayo Pitafi intercepted a truck and recovered 244 cartons of unregistered cigarettes worth millions of rupees. The accused, identified as Asfand Pathan and Shahbaz Pathan hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were taken into custody.
According to police officials, the seized cigarettes belonged to an unregistered company and were being distributed in various districts of Sindh. An FIR has been registered at the Babarloi police station.
During initial interrogation, the accused revealed their involvement in selling substandard cigarettes across multiple districts. Police said further investigations was underway to dismantle the network associated with this illegal trade.
