Killing of Nishat man: Court seeks presence of witness

Srinagar, May 30, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, a local court in Srinagar has directed prosecution to produce witness before it on next date of hearing in the killing of a contractor, Ali Muhammad Mir, of Nishat area of Srinagar. The 4th additional Principal and Sessions Court, Srinagar, issued the instructions after the prosecution witness didn’t appear before the court.

“The fresh instructions were issued for production of witness as it has been more than a year that no prosecution witness appeared before the court,” said public prosecutor, Sabina.

According to police investigation, Ali Muhammad Mir was abducted in 1996 by government gunman, Papa Kishtwari, and his four associates. The case dairy states that Ali Muhammad Mir was subsequently killed. Two among the culprit are dead and another, Muhammad Maqbool, is absconding. The other two, including Kishtawari, are in Central Jail, Srinagar.

In 1996, a missing report was lodged at Nishat police station by Ali Muhammad Mir’s family members. In 2007, police claimed that Kishtwari and his associates killed Ali Muhammad Mir and a charge-sheet was produced before the court. The three offenders, Papa Kishtwari, Ghulam Rasool Ganai alias Gulzar, and Khurshid Ahmed Ganai have been in jail for the past 12 years.
