The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) today initiated severe disciplinary proceedings against its former president, Abuzar Shad, following an incident where he allegedly made death threats and used abusive language against the current chamber president, Faheem-ur-Rehman Saigol.

In an emergency session, the LCCI’s Executive Committee unanimously denounced the confrontation, which took place a day earlier, labeling it as one of the most deplorable episodes in the organization”s history.

A report presented during the meeting detailed that Abuzar Shad reportedly entered the President”s office without cause, where he engaged in aggressive behavior, employed offensive language, and issued grave threats. The committee described this conduct as a violation of the sanctity of both the office and the institution.

Citing the gravity of the matter and the resulting damage to the chamber”s reputation, the committee has sanctioned formal disciplinary action under Article 14(i) of the LCCI”s Memorandum and Articles of Association. A show-cause notice is set to be issued to Shad immediately, which could lead to penalties such as the revocation of his membership and removal from any held office.

The committee members asserted that the episode represents a direct challenge to the chamber’s discipline and an insult to the entire business community, clarifying that no individual’s personal grievances would be permitted to undermine the institution.

LCCI President Faheem-ur-Rehman Saigol asserted that such actions are intolerable and vowed to protect the chamber’s environment and institutional respect. He confirmed that prominent trade and industrial organizations throughout the city have also censured Shad’s conduct and voiced their full backing for the Executive Committee”s decision.

The Executive Committee concluded by reaffirming its unwavering commitment to upholding the institution”s dignity and ethical standards. A decision was also made to formulate a comprehensive strategy aimed at preventing future occurrences and fostering a more secure and professional environment.
