The 95th birth anniversary of Awami Tahreek’s founder leader late Rasool Bux Palijo was observed by his party at his final resting place in village Mungar Khan Palijo near Jungshahi, where national and revolutionary anthems were sung in his honor.

The leaders laid a floral wreath and saluted him. A large number of women from the Sindhiani Tehreek also attended the event. There were slogans against the new canals, land grabs in Sindh, and encroachments on the Keenjhar and Haji Lake areas.

In their speeches, the leaders, including the central vice president of the Awami Tehreek, Hoorinsa Palijo, highlighted that Rasool Bux Palijo was a strong supporter of the Indus River. They emphasized his efforts in keeping the river flowing and beautifying the forests.

They said under his leadership, both the Awami Tehreek and Sindhiani Tehreek carried out long marches against the Kalabagh Dam and other important issues. Palijo was described as a defender of Sindh who fought valiantly for the river’s rights and worked tirelessly for the betterment of the province.

The party leaders said: “His speeches continue to awaken the Sindhi people, as his vision was centered on the liberation of the Sindhi community.”

The leaders further stated that the Sindhi people had viewed the six new canal projects as a conspiracy to dry up the Indus River, with both the federal and provincial governments involved.

They accused President Asif Ali Zardari of violating the constitution by approving those canals. The leaders demanded that the canal projects be canceled, the rightful water be given to Sindh, and that land-grabbing under the guise of corporate farming be stopped. They called for the distribution of land among the local landless farmers.

They also expressed concern about the destruction of Keenjhar Lake being polluted and contaminated like Manchar Lake, and demanded immediate action to prevent further damage.
