A tragic incident occurred today at the busy Chandio Mor in Khairpur, when a three-year-old child, Rawal Menghwar, fell into an uncovered sewer line and lost his life.
This young child was the son of Sarwar Menghwar, and local residents retrieved his lifeless body and took it to the civil hospital. Unfortunately, medical experts confirmed his death upon arrival.
The incident has sparked a wave of protests from local residents against the Khairpur Municipal Committee. Protesters are holding the committee’s chairman, chief officer, and district administration responsible for the persistent negligence and inadequate maintenance of open sewers.
Following this tragedy, the community is demanding the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the municipal authorities. They are also urging compliance with the Sindh High Court’s order to address the issue of open sewer covers.
