Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab today described the unfulfilled United Nations resolution of January 5, 1949, as a persistent question on the world”s conscience, urging the international community to grant the people of Kashmir their right to self-determination.
In a message expressing complete solidarity on Kashmir Right to Self-Determination Day, the mayor emphasised that the Kashmiri populace must be granted their fundamental right in line with established UN mandates, noting their decades-long struggle.
Barrister Wahab made it clear that Pakistan fully supports the Kashmiri people”s quest for self-determination and called upon global bodies, particularly the United Nations, to honour the commitments made to the region”s inhabitants.
He asserted that a resolution to the longstanding issue lies in conducting a free and transparent plebiscite, adding that methods of oppression and repression cannot weaken the resolve of the Kashmiri people.
The mayor concluded by stating that the city of Karachi, alongside the entire nation, stands shoulder to shoulder with its Kashmiri brethren, affirming that the right to self-determination is their undeniable legal and moral entitlement.
